Pursuant to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War's (SUVCW) job description for the Camp Historian, the activities of the Camp Historian should include maintaining and cataloging all historical, biographical and/or photographic material given to or developed by the Camp regarding the Civil War, Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), and SUVCW. Such material would include but not be limited to the following: newspaper articles, Post/Camp membership records, Post/Camp meeting minutes, old Post/Camp financial records, photographs, and donated memorabilia.
The various Brothers who have filled this post have taken their responsibilities to heart and, consequently, the Curtenius Guard Camp #17 has accumumlate a considerable amount of material. Currently, the Camp has seven containers worth of such material. The collection contains 20 notebooks of historical information on the Camp, Department, National Organization, G.A.R., the Sunfield GAR Hall, etc, 4 notebooks of Camp member applications, 4 notebooks of meeting minutes, 3 notebooks of Banners, and a variety of donated books and other gifts that have been acquired over the years.
An index of all the historical holdings of the Camp may be accessed by the link below. This document was recently updated (as of January 1, 2013).
